I attended the 2nd to last Spanish movie, which documented the life of a woman who was sentenced to prison time for the accusations of murder. The woman allegedly killed her lover, whom she was impregnated by, and spent her first 4 years in a maternity ward of the prison. She soon gained friendships and a relationship within this world of women. The woman gave birth to her son, Tommy, and raised him for about 3 years in the prison before her mother took the child into society. When the woman was given a day of free time, she went to see her son and took him, hopping on a bus away from Buenos Aires and crossed borders into another country (probably Uruguay) with her son where she was able to start anew.
I really enjoyed this movie. Although it was slightly graphic and vulgar at times, there was also beauty conveyed through the relationships between people. It was so interesting to see the real experience of these female prisoners. It was even more interesting to compare and contrast between being a prisoner (with limited resources)and being a mother. I observed Hispanic culture in a prison setting and learned new words, way they are said, and a little about the Buenos Aires judicial system.
