The movie we watched Monday night was very interesting because it didn't sugar coat the immigration process, if one chooses to immigrate in that way. I have always heard about the hardships endured in coming to America illegally, but I never knew it was to the extreme that was portrayed in the movie. I felt really bad for Marlon because Reina tricked him completely into coming to America illegally. She used him to get what she wanted and was blinded by his "love" for her. I could not believe the way that someone had just walked up to the immigrants demanding all their money and even someone's shoes. It was horrible that people kill over something as little and inexpensive as shoes. I think we take advantage of these small privileges we have, when others are being killed over them.

I enjoyed the movie for the most part, but I am not a big fan of movies that leave the endings up to my imagination. I think that the movie should not have left off with Marlon standing outside debating on what to do with his life. I wish it was more informative about his family, if he returned to Colombia or not, Reina's child, if he ended up working things out with the singer, and also his life after getting smuggled into the United States.

  2. Movie Night (Paraiso Travel)

Paraiso Travel was a great film to watch because it is educational and interesting. Watching this film gave me the opportunity to learn about how and why many Hispanic individuals cross state borders illegally. The act of crossing state borders illegally can be very dangerous and sometimes life threatening. It also made me realize that there are some Hispanic communities and cultures within the United States that live as if they were living in their own native countries. And in cases like this, they would never have to learn how to speak English. The sub-cultures that exist in our country are very interesting to me and I hope to learn more about them. The more diversity that surrounds people, the more enhanced their knowledge becomes, hence the more educated people are relating to specific individuals. This movie also, to some extent, demonstrates the determination and bravery love has over an individual and the extent to which it motivates them.
